If you have not yet opened an account under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) then you should do it right away. PMJDY is one of the government's most ambitious financial schemes. The poorest of the poor can open a bank account under this scheme, in which a wide range of economic benefits are offered. 

What is Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana

The Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) is a National Mission for Financial Inclusion that aims to provide inexpensive access to financial services including basic savings and deposit accounts, remittance, credit, insurance, and pension.  A benefit of Rs 1.30 lakh is given

The account user receives a total benefit of Rs1.30 lakh while opening an account under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. This also includes accident insurance. The account holder receives accident insurance for Rs.1,00,000 and general insurance worth Rs.30,000. In such a case, if the account holder is involved in an accident, Rs.30,000 is given. If the account holder dies in this accident, he or she will receive one lakh rupees, for a total benefit of Rs 1.30 lakh. 

How to open an account under this scheme: 

Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, more accounts are opened in public sector banks. But, if you want, you can also open your Jan Dhan account in any private bank. If you have any other savings account then you can convert it to a Jan Dhan account also. Any citizen residing in India, whose age is 10 years or more, can open a Jan Dhan account. 

Required Documents:  

Verification of documents is required under KYC to open a Jan Dhan account. Jan Dhan account can be opened using these documents: 

  • Aadhar Card

  • Pan Card

  • Driving License

  • Voter ID Card

  • Passport

  • MNREGA Job Card

 Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana: 

  • There is no need to worry about keeping a minimum amount in the account.

  • Savings accounts will continue to earn the same rate of return.

  • Mobile banking will also be provided at no cost.

  • Each user is covered by an accident insurance policy worth up to Rs.2 lakh.

  • An overdraft facility of up to Rs.10,000 is available.

  • The RuPaycard can be used to withdraw cash and make purchases.
