Prime Minister Inaugurates Asia’s Largest Solar Plant in Rewa

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the 750 Megawatt power capacity Rewa Solar Power Plant to the nation. The prime minister on the occasion spoke how the solar plant was a historic moment for the country. The plant is the largest of its kind in Asia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the 750 Megawatt power capacity Rewa Solar Power Plant to the nation. The prime minister on the occasion spoke how the solar plant was a historic moment for the country. The plant is the largest of its kind in Asia. 

The plant nameplate capacity is 750 Megawatt and it  covers an area of 1590 acres and is a symbol of India’s commitment towards a clean and green future. The prime minister also talked about how the land of Rewa which was famous for the River Narmada and the white tiger will now also be seen as a place with a state of the art solar plant. 

Key features of Rewa Solar Power Plant

Here are some important points related to the solar plant: 

  • The plant is a joint venture between the state run corporation Madhya Pradesh UrjaVikash Nigam Limited(MPUVNL) and the Solar Energy Corporation of India(SECIL), a company under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. 
  • The Rewa Project is the first solar plant that has managed to produce electricity at a lower tariff than the coal based
  • It is the first project in India that is providing electricity to an  inter-state open access customer, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation(DMRC).
  • It has got the Group President’s Award  forexcellence in transaction structure from the World Bank. 
  • It was the first Solar Project in India to get funding from the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) which provides loans at a very low rate of 0.25% for a period of 40 years.
  • Three tier basedPayment Security Mechanism for the first time in India which makes sure that payments are made solely on the performance. 
  • The auction of the solar power plant was done in three stages with one bid allowing a bidder to develop  aunit of 250 watt of unit for the solar plant. 
  • Mahindra Renewables Private Ltd., ACME Jaipur Solar Power Private Limited and ArinsunClean Energy private limited were chosen to develop the three 250 watt solar generating units.
