PU VC flags off CII Walkathon at Sukhna Lake

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Chandigarh in association with Department of Tourism, Chandigarh Administration organized a Walkathon to create a buzz around the environmental, health and economic benefits of walking on the occasion of Earth Day, today. Prof Arun K Grover, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, flagged off the Walkathon at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh. More than 150 industry members of CII and their families participated in this 5 km Walkathon.

More than 150 participate in Walkathon organized by CII 

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Chandigarh in association with Department of Tourism, Chandigarh Administration organized a Walkathon to create a buzz around the environmental, health and economic benefits of walking on the occasion of Earth Day, today. Prof Arun K Grover, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, flagged off the Walkathon at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh. More than 150 industry members of CII and their families participated in this 5 km Walkathon.

“Each and every citizen must come forward and contribute their bit in maintaining the ecological balance and ultimately mitigating the risk of falling prey to diseases,” said Prof Arun K Grover, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University at the occasion. He urged the participants to take responsibility of environment conservation and begin with small and simple initiatives to maintain the health of the city and overall ecosystem.

Mr Sofi Zahoor, Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council and Senior Director India - HR & Operations, QuarkXPress Publishing R&D (India) Pvt Ltd 

stressed the need to enhance the overall quality of life through Walking. “The message through this walkathon is clear as it encourages people to aim for a healthier lifestyle by actively walking and it does not take much time either. Taking a walk break during the day helps mitigate the risks of prolonged sitting as well as helps with focus and productivity,” he added.

Mr Sarvjeet Singh Virk, Vice Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council and Managing Director, Finvasia India Pvt Ltd 

reiterated the need to ensure active lifestyles by including physical activities in everyday routines.

“Walking is not only very beneficial for our health and well being but it can also play an important role in improving our quality of life because it helps protect and improve the living environment and natural resources. Improving the environment also brings added health benefits that come from cleaner air and less traffic noise,” he said.
