The Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department of the Government of Puducherry has won first place in the smaller States category for successfully implementing the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) crop insurance scheme.

Ritesh Chauhan, joint secretary, agricultural, and the CEO of PMFBY, handed the award to Zakir Hussain, joint director agriculture, who represented Puducherry in the scheme's recent ninth National Review Conference in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

From 2016-17 to 2022-23, the Puducherry Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department implemented the Central Government's crop insurance scheme for the welfare of farmers, providing timely compensation and resolution of concerns. So far, over 72,000 farmers have registered, including approximately 25,000 affected by natural disasters.

Crop damage compensation of Rs. 29 crore had been paid. Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan sent a message of congratulations to Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, Agriculture Minister C. Djeacoumar, and Agriculture Department personnel.

PMFBY continues to serve farmers and work tirelessly in their interest for worry-free farming and a comfortable livelihood, assisting them in shaping a bright future for future generations.
