Punjab Govt Promotes Healthy Eating: Millets Added to State Institute of Sports' Menu

To offer sportsmen with a balanced and nutritious diet, the Punjab government has added millets to the menu at all Punjab State Institute of Sports centres.

Millet is high in protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Millet has the ability to protect cardiovascular health, reduce the onset of diabetes, assist people achieve and maintain a healthy weight, and manage gastrointestinal inflammation. Millet is a versatile grain.

"Ragi porridge (Dalia), mixed millet chapatis, and Bajra-Dal Khichdi will be provided three times per week."

Trainees will be informed about the benefits of millet eating on a regular basis through online and offline sessions," Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said on Wednesday.

This effort, he said, is part of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's vision of a healthy and prosperous Punjab.

Rakhee Gupta Bhandari, Principal Secretary, Sports Department, stated that the department has made adequate preparations to launch this new programme.

The United Nations has designated 2023 as the International Year of Millets. She stated that trainees are being educated on the benefits of eating coarse grains, especially millets, in their diet.
