Punjab hosts Dairy training programs in queue

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has been awarded the prestigious project of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) project in the Agriculture sector.  It was under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, for providing training to Dairy Farmer/ Entrepreneur job role to farmers of Punjab. Vet Varsity's Regional Research and Training Centre, (Talwara) organized three days training for the first batch of trainees. A total of twenty-eight farmers including five ladies from the area attended the training.

In the first two days expert lectures on various aspects of dairy farming were delivered by university experts and on the third-day assessment of the trainees was conducted by the online system. Dr H.K. Verma, Director Extension Education interacted with the trainees and enlightened them about the huge scope of dairy farming in India and especially Punjab. While addressing, he encouraged the trainees to adopt scientific ways of livestock rearing which will help them in improving their economic status and earning livelihood in the Kandi area.

Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist cum Director, RRTC Talwara, delivered lectures to the trainees about the common reproductive problems in dairy animals in the area and also about the various management practices to be followed by the farmers while raising dairy animals. He informed that farmers who are interested in this training may get a form from Directorate of Extension Education and submit in the Directorate with relevant documents. These training will be organized at GADVASU Campus, Ludhiana, RRTC, Talwara, KVK, Mohali, Barnala and Tarn Taran. For further details, one may contact telephone number 0161-2553364.

Dr Gagandeep Singh, Assistant Animal Health Specialist delivered lectures on the various common diseases of dairy animals and their management and prevention by adopting proper vaccination and deworming practices.  T-shirts and caps bearing PMKVY logo along with university publications and C.Ds were distributed to the trainees free of cost for further enhancing their knowledge.

After the training assessment of the trainees by an independent agency was conducted on the third   day in which online evaluation was done by theoretical and practical viva of the trainees by the assessor. Certificates will be also awarded to the trainees for this training by the online system under the Skill India Mission. Such type of more training under the RPL scheme will be conducted in RRTC, Talwara in the future.
