In line with the Rejuvenation of Auto-rickshaws in Amritsar via the Holistic Intervention (RAAHI) scheme, a cash subsidy of Rs. 1.25 lakh is being provided to buy an e-auto. The previous subsidy was Rs 75,000. In order to improve the city's public transportation system and minimize pollution, the project was launched under the Smart City Mission.

After discussing with auto-rickshaw unions and drivers, Amritsar Smart City CEO and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Kumar Saurabh Raj stated that it was found that in the past, auto-rickshaw drivers had to spend approximately Rs 50,000 to take full advantage of the scheme. However, their financial situation did not allow them to afford the down payment.

In addition to this, auto drivers also called for an increase in the subsidy. The government has now upped the subsidy and will now provide it up front, taking everything into consideration.

In addition to the State Bank of India, he claimed that more banks are being selected by the government as part of the scheme. Canara Bank, Indian Bank, Union Bank, HDFC Bank, and Punjab Gramin Bank have all submitted proposals.

The aspiring driver, according to him, must be a member of the Amritsar Auto-Rickshaw Drivers Cooperative Society in order to benefit from the RAAHI plan. In order to take advantage of the RAAHI scheme, they must also have an Aadhaar card, voter card, old vehicle registration certificate, driving license, and society membership slip.

With these documents, the driver can submit an application by going to a Mahindra or Piaggio dealership that has been granted authorization. He said that the RAAHI scheme would boost drivers' earnings in addition to helping to clean up the city's environment, as the operating cost of a diesel vehicle is roughly Rs 4 to 5 per kilometer compared to 0.68 pence in an electric vehicle.

For the female family members of auto-rickshaw drivers, the scheme also offers free skill development classes. The All-India Women's Conference branch at the bus stop offers classes in sewing, tailoring, beauty parlor, computer operation, and the preservation of food and fruit.
