Rajasthan's Burial Protest Against JDA Continued On Diwali By Performing Govardhan Puja

As a mark of protest against Jaipur Development Authority's move to acquire land from the farmers of Nindar village,  around 650 women have buried themselves. The protest is staged in the ground opposite to  JDA. On Diwali eve the women marked their protest by performing Pooja at the Site by burying themselves neck-deep in the ground.

The protests began with JDA's land acquisition without the consent of affected people. More than 80% of affected people are against the land acquisition. They are agitated over the acquisition of 13 000 bighas of land for a housing project and not providing fair compensation.

The demonstration site becomes the stage for Govardhana Pooja as a show of protest against Government's move to acquire land. Their leader said more protestors joined the movement and are on fast due to the negligence of Government to initiate a  talk.

The JDA has announced the scheme in 2011 under it 10,000 houses were to be built. JDA has taken possession of 600 bighas of land and deposited Rs.60 Crore as compensation which is much lesser than the prevailing market rates, so the farmers refused to accept it.  

The opposition Congress has condemned the government for failing to address the issue on time and making the farmers to stage a protest on festival season.
