RATAN TATA, KT THOMAS, APPOINTED AS TRUSTEES OF PM CARES FUND
Ratan Tata is the new trustee of the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES). Also, former Supreme Court judge KT Thomas and former deputy Lok Sabha speaker Kariya Munda have made it to the list.
A meeting of PM Cares was held under the chairmanship of PM Modi on Tuesday that was also attended by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Home Minister Amit Shah, and a few others, before deciding on the names of the newer trustees.
Ratan Tata, former chairman of Tata Sons has been made the trustee of the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES) along with former Supreme Court judge KT Thomas, and former deputy Lok Sabha speaker Kariya Munda.
PM Care Fund was started under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27 March 2020 to help people during the Corona Pandemic. The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) a few days back told media that the PM Care Fund has increased almost three times in the 2020-21 financial year.
Besides, an advisory board has also been constituted under PM-CARES with Rajiv Mehrishi, former Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Sudha Murthy, former Chairperson of Infosys Foundation, and Anand Shah, co-founder of Teach for India and Former CEO of Indicorps & Piramal Foundation as the advisors.
In the meeting, Modi said that the participation of new Trustees, as well as Advisors, will provide broader perspectives on the functioning of PM CARES Fund.
It is worth mentioning that the fund consists entirely of voluntary contributions from organizations & individuals. Moreover, no budget is allocated.
