Shobhit Institute of Engineering & Technology, Uttar Pradesh - In an effort to explore strategies and solutions for doubling farmers' income in Uttar Pradesh, a seminar titled "Doubling Farmers Income by 2022 and Beyond - Role of Agri Community Service Centers through Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs)" will be held at the University Auditorium on June 28, 2023.

The seminar aims to bring together experts, policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders in the agriculture sector to discuss and deliberate on the crucial role played by Agri Community Service Centers and Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) in achieving the goal of doubling farmers' income. The event is scheduled to take place from 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM.

Earlier, the university organized a webinar on Post COVID-19 Sustainable Uttar Pradesh 2025." The webinar focused on the development of digitalized agricultural commodities value chains and the implementation of an appropriate business model for marketing, with the aim of achieving the goal of doubling farmers' income by 2022 and beyond.

One of the key components discussed during the webinar was the role of Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) in the digitalization of agricultural commodity value systems. The VLEs, who are part of the Common Services Centre (CSC) 2.0 Scheme initiated by the Government of India, have been actively providing online public utility and financial services to citizens, while also boosting entrepreneurship and employment in rural areas. With their credibility and respect within the community, VLEs were identified as important stakeholders in empowering farmers and agripreneurs.

Uttar Pradesh, known for its rich heritage and diverse industries, is rapidly emerging as a driver of the nation's economy. The state boasts a vast network of expressways, industrial corridors, international airports, and centres of educational and medical excellence. With a population of 24 crores and a significant dependency on agriculture, Uttar Pradesh is committed to the "One District, One Product" (ODOP) scheme, which aims to promote rural employment and entrepreneurship at the district level.

Under the ODOP scheme, various agricultural products such as amla, banana, basil, chicory, chilli, corn, fish, garlic, groundnut, guava, honey, jaggery, kala namak rice, lentil, mango, milk, mint, mustard, oil-seed, onion, pea, potato, tomato, and turmeric have been identified for value chain development and support infrastructure alignment.
