Many farmers suffered extensive crop loss due to unseasonal rains in the southern parts of Tamil Nadu. Hence the State Government has provided them Rs. 16.48 Crore in the first phase as a relief amount, mentioned Thoothukudi district Collector Dr. K. Senthilraj.
The Collector also said that the district has lost crops cultivated on 1.21 lakh hectares including agricultural crops on 1.04 lakh hectares & horticultural crops on 17,000 hectares of land due to unseasonal rains in mid-January.
He said that, “the district administration submitted a detailed report to the Tamil Nadu government for crop loss compensation. Government agreed to it and started giving relief in phases to the affected farmers. And first phase of relief compensation has already been transferred directly to the bank accounts of the concerned agriculturalists.”
He added that Rs. 16.48 Crore are already transferred to the accounts of 12,984 farmers last Saturday, and all the concerned agriculturalists will receive the relief fund soon in phases.
