Seminar on Industrial Growth : Burning Issues and way Forward

Krishi Jagran team attended a Seminar at PHD Chamber, New Delhi on thursday, 10th May at 10 am. It was facilitated by eminent personalities from commerce industry. The session was followed by the opening remarks and moderation by Dr. S.P. Sharma, Chief Economist, PHD Chamber. The main idea behind the issues dealt by chamber were stated in brief.

It was followed by welcome remarks by Shri Rajeev Talwar, Sr. Vice President, PHD Chamber.

Theme presentation by Shri Sanjay Aggarwal, Chairman, Industry Affairs Committee was worth listening as it elaborated the problems and related issues.

Key note address by Dr. Ajay Dua, IAS (Rtd.), Former Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, GoI,  also discussed the issue in depth raising discussions.

Address by Dr. Ram Upendra Das, Head and Professor, Centre for Regional Trade, Department of Commerce was part of the session.

Presentation on Industry by Dr. Niti Bhasin, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi provided detail information of comparable growth of different countries in terms of different industrial sectors. The session also threw light on  growth scenario of India.

Outlook on Industry by Dr. Bornali Bhandari, Fellow, National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER).

Observations on Industry by Shri S K Roongta, Co- Chairman, Industry Affairs Committee questioned whether we expect industry to be job creator or value creator?

View  point on Industrial sector by Shri Ram A Poddar, Co- Chairman, Industry Affairs Committee was “Make in India” and how it can be taken to technological level.

The Seminar was followed by Question and answer session.

The labour reforms, fixed employment contracts and problem of oil and petroleum, agriculture and farmers problems and lack of jobs in R & D sector was raised as problems.

In the concluding remarks Shri Vikram Agarwal stated that the recommendations will be forwarded to the government and with this statement he closed the session with a vote of thanks.
