On January 18, 2025, PM Modi will distribute over 65 lakh property cards under the SVAMITVA Scheme to property owners in more than 50,000 villages across 230 districts in 10 states and 2 Union territories. The distribution, which will take place via video conferencing around 12:30 PM, is part of an effort to provide households with a ‘Record of Rights’ for properties in rural areas using cutting-edge drone technology for accurate surveying.

Launched in April 2020, the SVAMITVA Scheme aims to foster the economic growth of rural India by providing formal property records, enabling the monetization of assets, and facilitating access to institutional credit. It also seeks to resolve property-related disputes, improve property tax assessments, and support better village-level planning. With drone surveys completed in over 3.17 lakh villages, the scheme has reached 92% of its target, and 2.25 crore property cards have been issued to more than 1.53 lakh villages.

The scheme has achieved full coverage in regions like Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Tripura, Goa, Uttarakhand, and Haryana. In addition, drone surveys have been completed in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, along with various Union Territories.

The SVAMITVA Scheme, which is set to cover 6.62 lakh villages by 2025, has already shown significant impact. It aims to streamline revenue collection and planning while enhancing socio-economic empowerment in rural areas. The scheme's ultimate goal is to reduce property disputes and make property ownership clearer and more accessible, especially for rural residents.
