Talks between Farmer-Government remain inconclusive for the ninth time, next meet on 19 January

Farmers Protest: Agricultural Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that, “we welcome the decision taken by the Supreme Court and the Government will put its side in front of the committee opted by the SC. We want the issue to be solved quickly.” 

It was the ninth round of negotiations between farmers’ organizations and Centre. Discussion held at Vigyan Bhavan. Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait had given the statement that if the Supreme Court asks, the farmers will take back their decision of Republic Day Tractor Parade.  

Demand to Withdraw the Laws 

In today’s meeting, once again farmers rejected the Government’s proposal. Farmers Organizations’ wants the government to withdraw the farm laws. On the other side, a letter has been written to the Chief Justice Bobde on the behalf of Sikhs for Justice Organization, in which they have appealed to not stop the farmers from taking out tractor rally on 26 January. 

Laws are for the Favour of Farmers 

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has given the statement that the farmers leaders of the country are hurting the farmers only, they are destroying them in cold. He said, “the objective of the Government is to double the farmers’ income, and these farm laws are related to that only.” 

He said that the Government is ready to amend the farm bill, and will accept whatever the decision Supreme Court will take, and farmers should also accept that decision. 

Government is Adamant or Farmers? 

Union Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar said, “farmers say that Government is adamant, but we have accepted the words of farmers and farmers have not even moved a step.” In the meeting, Piyush Goyal gave information related to FCI.  

Tomar said that the meeting was inconclusive but genial. He said, “We hope discussions would continue. The Government offered that the farmers can form an informal group among themselves and submit a proposal on what they want.” 

Will Solve the Issue by Talks: Rakesh Tikait 

Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said, “farmers’ organizations told the government that the committee constituted by the SC is not acceptable. The farmers’ organization and the government have decided that the talks will continue and they will find the solution by the negotiation.  

After all this, the meeting was still inconclusive, Now the next meeting is scheduled on January 19.
