Tax Payers Alert! ITR e-verification Time Limit Reduced to 30 Days; Details Inside
Starting on August 1, the I-T department has cut the time frame for e-verification or hard copy submission of the ITR-V, after the filing of returns by taxpayers, from the previous 120 days to 30 days.
Beginning on August 1, the Income Tax department has reduced the time limit for e-verification or hard copy submission of the ITR-V after taxpayers file returns from the previous 120 days to 30 days.
The department announced the change in the timeframe in a notification on July 29. The announcement said that the time limit for e-verification or submission of ITR-V would now be 30 days from the date of transmitting/uploading the return data electronically, "regarding any electronic transmission of return data on or after the date of this notification comes into effect."
It stated that the injunction is effective as of August 1. Until recently, after filing an Income Tax Return (ITR), you had 120 days from the date of uploading the ITR to e-verify the ITR or mail the ITR-V.
The notification made it clear that returns would be considered late or past due if the ITR's e-verification or hard copy ITR-V were received through the mail after the allotted 30 days.
It stated, "For the purpose of determining the 30 days period, from the date of transmitting the Income-tax return electronically, the date of dispatch of speed post of duly verified ITR-V shall be regarded."
If you would want to send the ITR-V via mail, you can do so to the following address: Centralised Processing Centre, Income Tax Department, Bengaluru-560500, Karnataka.
