These 3 Ps will improve the ECONOMY of FARMERS

This project is a brain child of Dr A.S. Nanda, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU. He is of the view that collaboration between public and private partners can improve the productivity and act as a stimulant to growth in agriculture and food sectors leading to the improvement of economic conditions of farmers in India. He affirmed that the success of P-3 initiatives can ‘make impossible possible’. Dr Nanda further stressed that the establishment of industrial incubator for Poultry Processing and Product development, will not only provide wholesome, hygienic, safe poultry products to masses in addition to strengthening of teaching and research activities and will act as a training hub for the budding entrepreneurs.

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mr Vijay Garg, MD, M/S Shiva Poultry Equipments, Barnala to run first project under Progressive Public Private Partnership (P-3) Model. This project is a brain child of Dr A.S. Nanda, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU. He is of the view that collaboration between public and private partners can improve the productivity and act as a stimulant to growth in agriculture and food sectors leading to the improvement of economic conditions of farmers in India. He affirmed that the success of P-3 initiatives can ‘make impossible possible’. Dr Nanda further stressed that the establishment of industrial incubator for Poultry Processing and Product development, will not only provide wholesome, hygienic, safe poultry products to masses in addition to strengthening of teaching and research activities and will act as a training hub for the budding entrepreneurs.

Dr J.P.S Gill, Director Research revealed that university has already signed bilateral MoU with many national and international agencies to promote and strengthen research in veterinary, dairy and fisheries sector, however this is the first time that university has entered into Public Private Partnership mode. Mr Vijay Garg informed that their company is in poultry business from the last 25 years with a belief in ‘value and quality’. Dr A.K.Puniya, Chairman, GADVASU, P-3 committee told the media that mutual contribution of public and private sector can help in achieving the target of doubling farmers’s income by 2022. Dr Harish Verma, Director Extension Education, told that this unit will act as a running adoptable model for the poultry farmers in the state.

Dr. Manish Chatli, Head, Livestock Products Technology highlighted that such units will ensure animal welfare and food safety, and provide economic and environment sustainability. He also mentioned that various novel technologies are being developed by department in meat and egg processing, value addition, packaging and quality assurance for the benefit of the entrepreneurs. Dr. Sushil Prabhakar, Registrar, Dr P.S. Brar, Dean COVS, Dr. P.P.S. Dhaliwal, Comptroller and representatives of the firm and university were present on the occasion.
