Candidates can submit grievances until July 20, 2024, and those eligible can register for counselling after this period. The counselling process includes registration, choice filling, seat allotment, and reporting to the allotted college.
Eligibility for TNEA counselling requires clearing the TNEA 2024 exam and being listed on the rank list. A counselling fee, varying by category, is required. Medical counselling delays due to NEET exam irregularities may cause a postponement in engineering counselling, potentially affecting seat availability at top colleges.
Potential Postponement Due to NEET Exam Delays
Due to delays in medical counselling caused by NEET exam irregularities, there may be a postponement in engineering counselling to avoid wasting seats in top colleges. Despite a new rule requiring students to join within seven days of seat allotment, about 400 seats at Anna University’s campuses remained vacant last year as students opted for medical seats. Career consultants suggest that conducting engineering counselling before medical counselling might encourage more medical aspirants to choose engineering as a safer option.
Grievance Redressal and Rank Determination
DoTE Chennai announced that the grievance redressal period will be available from July 11 to 20 for candidates to address any concerns regarding the rank list. The TNEA rank list is determined by scaling candidates’ marks in specified subjects of the qualifying examination to a base of 200 (Mathematics – 100, Physics + Chemistry – 100). Separate category-wise and overall rank lists will be published. Those appearing on the merit list will qualify for the counselling process.
Counselling Process Details
Candidates will be selected for counselling based on their rank. The counselling process will be conducted online in three rounds. During counselling, candidates will choose their preferred colleges and courses. Final seat allotment will be based on their choices and confirmation. Selected candidates must report to the allotted institutes to pay admission fees.
Counselling for special reservation categories such as eminent sports persons, differently-abled individuals, and wards of ex-servicemen will be conducted first in online mode. Each counselling round will comprise four stages: choice filling, allotment, confirmation of allotment, and reporting to the college for fee payment based on confirmation.
The general counselling, vocational counselling, and 7.5% preferential seats for students who studied from 6th to 12th grade in state government schools will be conducted simultaneously online.
