Tree Plantation Drive Kicks Off Along Bangalore-Chennai Expressway
Approximately 4,400 trees will be planted on both sides, with a spacing of 10 meters each.
The greening initiative for the under-construction Bangalore-Chennai Expressway (BCE) has commenced, starting with the planting of tree saplings along the Arakkonam to Gudipala stretch in the first phase.
A total of 4,400 trees will be planted on either side of the expressway, with a spacing of 10 m between each tree and positioned 14 m away from the center of the paved shoulder.
Furthermore, two rows of shrubs will be planted, consisting of a total of 19,556 shrubs.
Amrit Mahotsav
As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign initiated by the central government, a plantation drive has commenced.
Several project implementation units located in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Coimbatore, Kancheepuram, Krishnagiri, Puducherry, Salem, and Villupuram have participated in this initiative. They have planted saplings of native and fruit-bearing tree species, including neem, pungam, ficus, badam, naaval, as well as flowering shrubs like nerium, yellow oleander, and yellow trumpet flower.
On the Chennai-Tada section of NH5, a total of 7,670 plants measuring 60 cm in height have been planted in the median. Similarly, on the East Coast Road, specifically between Mamallapuram and Mugaiyur, coconut saplings were planted at Kadambadi. These efforts are part of the ongoing Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
