Tripura, Meghalaya and Manipur Celebrates Statehood Day, PM Modi Shares Greetings on Social Media

PM Modi conveyed his greetings to the three states of North-East: Tripura, Meghalaya, and Manipur via social media in the 51^st year of Statehood of the states. January 21 has been designated as Statehood Day for the three states.

Every year on January 21, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura celebrate Statehood Day as on this day these states were granted statehood under the North Eastern Region (Reorganization) Act of 1971. Prior to the statehood of the seven sisters namely Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya, Assam, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland, the North Eastern region consisted of Assam plains from the old Assam Province, hill districts, and the North Eastern Frontier Tracts of the North-Eastern borders.

PM Modi tweeted, greeting the people of Tripura:

"On their Statehood Day, best wishes to the people of Tripura. The last 5 years have been remarkable for Tripura’s growth trajectory. From agriculture to industry, education to health, the state has seen great transformation. May this trend continue in the coming times."

PM shared his greetings for the people of Meghalaya:

"Greetings to the people of Meghalaya on their Statehood Day. This state is known for its vibrant culture, particularly music, art and passion towards sports. People from Meghalaya have excelled in diverse fields. I pray for Meghalaya’s continuous progress in the years to come."

Greeting the people of Manipur, PM wrote:

"Statehood Day greetings to the people of Manipur. The state has been progressing on several counts during the last few years. I pray that the aspirations of the people of this state are fulfilled and Manipur keeps strengthening India’s growth trajectory."

The three states were established on January 21, 1972. Their formation is commemorated annually on January 21 with the celebration of Statehood Day.
