The Telangana high court on 23rd April 2019 asked the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) to do a revaluation of answer sheets of all the students who failed in the 1st and 2nd year Inter examinations. The TSBIE first and second year results were announced few days back.
The court, while hearing an appeal filed by an Non Government Organization, gave time to the Telangana State board till 29th April i.e. next Monday to reveal how much time it would take to complete the revaluation, according to HT.
The NGO has also asked for a thorough probe into the lapses & compensation to the families of the candidates who ended their lives.
Around nine lakh students had appeared in the inter exams held in the month of February and March. The results that were announced last week, led to utter chaos as many intelligent students who did well in the 1st year failed in the 2nd year. Many of them were shocked as they got ‘zero’, ‘one’ or ‘two’ marks in the exams.
On Monday, TSBIE Secretary Mr. A. Ashok has admitted that there were some lapses in announcing the 1st and 2nd year results. However, he assured candidates that the discrepancies would be corrected.
The state government also ordered an investigation into the alleged lapses in the system, which was deployed by Globarena Technologies, whose services were hired by TSBIE to conduct the exams.
A three-member committee, headed by Mr. G. T. Venkateswar Rao, MD of Telangana State Technological Service, will find if there were any mistakes in publishing the results due to any systemic errors of the agency.
The committee, which also includes Professor Nishanth Dongari of IIT Hyderabad Professor and Professor A. Vassan of BITS Hyderabad as its members, has been asked to submit the report in 3 days.
Madhusudhan Reddy, Head of Telangana Government Junior College Lecturers Association said at least 8 students supposedly committed suicide while many others tried to end their lives after they failed to clear the exam.
The parents have alleged ‘goof up’ in the paper valuation & also demanded a thorough re-verification of the answer sheets of those who had failed.
Reddy further said that 11 students who scored more than 900 (out of total 1,000), 125 with scores between 850 & 900 and around 2,000 who got over 750 were declared ‘fail’ in one subject that varied among the students.
