UIDAI Enables Aadhaar Holders to Verify their Linked Email and Mobile Numbers
The modification occurred following the discovery by the Aadhaar custodian that some individuals were either unaware or uncertain about which of their mobile numbers was linked to their Aadhaar.
On Tuesday, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) introduced a new feature to its website and mobile app that enables residents to authenticate their Aadhaar-seeded mobile numbers and email IDs.
This update was prompted by the discovery made by the Aadhaar custodian that, in certain cases, residents were unaware or uncertain about which of their mobile numbers were linked to their Aadhaar.
The residents expressed concern that their Aadhaar OTP would be sent to a different mobile number. However, with the new feature, they can now easily verify their mobile number or email ID. This service is accessible through the 'Verify email/mobile Number function' on the official website or the mAadhaar App. UIDAI stated that this feature will assure residents that their email/mobile number is exclusively linked to their respective Aadhaar.
The feature also informs residents if a particular mobile number is not linked and recommends that they take the necessary steps to update their mobile number if required.
If the mobile number has already been validated, a message stating that "the mobile number you have entered is already verified with our records" will be displayed on the resident's screen. In case a resident has forgotten the mobile number they provided during enrollment, they can use the Verify Aadhaar function on the Myaadhaar webpage or mAadhaar app to verify the last three digits of their mobile number, as stated in the announcement.
Citizen must visit the local Aadhaar centre to link their email and cellphone number to their Aadhaar.
