Weather Alert: Extremely Heavy Rainfall Likely in Northeast States; Orange Alert Issued for Assam, Meghalaya

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said that high level of humidity levels along with high surface winds on 29 and 30 June will further increase the temperature in the National Capital. Although, there is a forecast of thunderstorms and light, patchy rain in parts of Delhi on Friday.

There is a possibility of rise in mercury levels in the national capital on Tuesday, with the highest temperature touching around 41 degrees Celsius, IMD further added.

“There is no possibility of a relief till Friday,” a senior IMD official said.

Weather Forecast for North- East Region

The Weather Department has also predicted strong moist southwesterly winds over the North Eastern region this week. Due to such weather conditions, fairly widespread rainfall and thunderstorms are likely over North East region and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal during the next five days.

Furthermore, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is predicted to the isolated places of the northeastern states during this week. Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Assam and Meghalaya from Monday to Wednesday. The 3 days total precipitation may reach up to 300 mm or more over these places mentioned above. Moreover, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast to prevail over Assam and Meghalaya on Thursday and Friday.

In addition, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh are likely to see continuous heavy rains throughout this week. Apart from this, parts of Sikkim may see heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, followed by heavy to extremely heavy rainfall from Wednesday onwards.

Apart from above predictions, the IMD has placed Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim under an orange alert from June 28 to July 2. This level of advisory requested the residents to ‘be prepared’ for rough weather. Arunachal Pradesh is also under a similar alert on June 28.

On the other hand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh have been kept under the yellow watch until July 2. The advisory requests residents to ‘be aware’ of the local weather situation.
