Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall to Hit Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu as Cyclonic Circulation Intensifies

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather updates highlighting heavy rainfall in parts of India. Kerala and Mahe have experienced intense rainfall, with isolated heavy showers over Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Coastal Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal have also witnessed significant rainfall activity.

As the Southwest Monsoon continues to withdraw, its current line stretches across parts of northern and central India, passing through regions such as Nautanwa, Sultanpur, Panna, and Nandurbar. Over the next 2-3 days, the IMD predicts the further retreat of the monsoon from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and portions of Maharashtra.

Regarding weather systems, a cyclonic circulation over South Kerala is expected to contribute to the formation of a low-pressure area around October 9th near Lakshadweep and the east-central Arabian Sea. This system may gradually move northwestward, affecting the weather in surrounding regions.

Over the coming week, southern India, particularly Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, is expected to continue receiving widespread light to moderate rainfall. Heavy rain is anticipated in Kerala and Mahe, with periods of intense downpours in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep, especially from October 7th to 12th. Karnataka will also experience isolated heavy showers during this period. Northeast India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, can expect scattered rainfall, with heavy showers predicted until October 11th.

Meanwhile, no significant rainfall is forecasted for Northwest, West, East, and Central India over the next week. 

Additionally, fishermen in areas such as Lakshadweep, Kerala, and the southeast Arabian Sea are warned of squally weather with winds reaching speeds of up to 55 km/h. They are advised to avoid venturing into these regions during this period.
