Weather Alert! IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert over These Places; Rain-related Incidents kill 5 in UP
The IMD in its morning bulletin said that the western end of the monsoon trough at mean sea level lies close to the foothills of the Himalayas and eastern end is near its normal position. A cyclonic circulation lies over Bangladesh & adjoining Gangetic West Bengal up to mid-tropospheric levels. In addition, there is a convergence of moist southerly/south-westerly winds from Bay of Bengal over Northeast & adjoining East India.

Assam flood tragedy worsens as toll nears 90; rain-related incidents kill 5 in UP
On Tuesday, the river that flows down from neighbouring Meghalaya swelled up due to heavy rains and breached its banks as the huge volume of water could not enter the overflowing Brahmaputra. The flood condition of Assam is still serious, with over 26 lakh people affected in 26 districts; 90 have died so far.

Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls most likely to occur over east & northeast India during next 5 days. Isolated heavy to very heavy falls are also very likely over Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal on 23rd July, 2020. Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls also very likely over West Coast and Madhya Pradesh during next 4-5 days.

light to moderate isolated/scattered rainfall very likely over most parts of northwest India till 25th July, its intensity & distribution very likely to increase thereafter due to southwards shift of western end of the monsoon trough.
Intense thunderstorm & lightning potential zone
Moderate to severe thunderstorm & lightning at isolated places very likely over south Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, South East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Vidarbha, North Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Jharkhand, Karnataka and Telangana during next 12 hours.
Maximum & Minimum Temperature
Maximum temperatures are appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at most places over East
Rajasthan and Gujarat region; at many places over West Madhya Pradesh while Minimum temperatures are above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Gujarat Region and
Lakshadweep; at many places over East Rajasthan and Kerala & Mahe.
