Weather Alert: IMD Predicts Heavy Shower over These Places; Assam Flood Death Toll Rises to 59
The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall over parts of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Northwest India. Today, the eastern end of the monsoon trough has shifted further southwards causing significant reduction in rainfall intensity over Northeast India where isolated heavy rainfall has been realized only over Arunachal Pradesh, says the weather forecast.

Today, the eastern end of the monsoon trough has shifted further southwards causing significant reduction in rainfall intensity over Northeast India where isolated heavy rainfall has been realized only over Arunachal Pradesh, says the weather forecast. Under the influence of strengthening of lower level easterlies and the Monsoon trough: a) Fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls is likely over the plains of Northwest India during 16-18 July, 2020 with maximum intensity and distribution of rainfall on 16th & 17th July. b) Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls are likely over Odisha & Bihar and isolated heavy falls are likely over Jharkhand and West Bengal during next 2 days.
These States Likely to Get Heavy Rainfall Today
Under the influence of strong lower level wind convergence along the West coast, isolated heavy to very heavy falls are likely over north Madhya Maharashtra, south Gujarat region and north Konkan during 14-16 July, 2020 with Isolated extremely heavy falls over north Madhya Maharashtra and north Konkan on 15th July and over south Gujarat region on 16th July.
59 lives lost, 33 lakh affected in Assam Flood
59 deaths due to flood were reported from Biswanath, Tinsukia, Lakhimpur, Bongaigaon, Kamrup, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Morigaon, Tinsukia, Dhubri, Nagaon, Nalbari, Barpeta, Dhemaji, Udalguri, Goalpara and Dibrugarh districts. Moreover, flood has created a total havoc situation in Assam affecting 33 lakh.
Intense thunderstorm & lightning potential zone: Moderate to severe thunderstorm & lightning very likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand during next 12 hours.
Rain/Thundershowers observed (from 0830 hours to 1730 hours IST of today): at most places over Konkan & Goa, Chhattisgarh and Coastal Karnataka; at many places over Gangetic West Bengal and Andaman & Nicobar Islands; at a few places over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh.
Minimum & Maximum Temperature
Maximum temperatures are above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and West Rajasthan; at many places over Uttarakhand, Punjab, West Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Kerala & Mahe; at a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi,East Rajasthan while minimum temperatures are appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over West Rajasthan; at a few places over Uttarakhand and at isolated place over Madhya Pradesh.
