Weather Alert! These Parts of India Likely to Get Heavy Rain Today; Bihar Flood Claims 8 Lives

Under the influence of meteorological conditions, widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Jharkhand today, the 28th July; over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and northeastern state, says IMD.

The IMD report says that Monsoon trough continues to run close to the foothills of Himalayas. It is very likely to shift southwards from tomorrow, the 29th July onwards. In addition, there is convergence of strong southerly/southwesterly from Arabian Sea over northwest India at lower levels and same is very likely to continue till 31st July, 2020, says weather forecast reports.

Bihar floods hit 12 districts, affect more than 29.62 lakh people; death count at 8

Bihar floods by Tuesday (July 28, 2020) evening have affected more than 29.62 lakh people across 12 districts and as many as 8 people have lost their lives in the flood-related incidents.

A cyclonic circulation lies over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & neighbourhood at mid-tropospheric levels. Another cyclonic circulation lies over Southeast & adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal up to mid tropospheric levels.

States that are Likely to Get Heavy Rainfall Today

Under the influence of above meteorological conditions, widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Jharkhand on today, the 28th July; over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim & northeastern state. (mainly over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya) during 28th-30th July; over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh during 29th-31st July; Isolated extremely heavy falls are also likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during 28th-30th July and over Uttarakhand and Bihar today, the 28th July, 2020. Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala during next 4-5 days.

Moderate to severe thunderstorm accompanied with lightning at isolated places very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit- Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Tamilnadu, Madhya Pradesh and south Bihar during next 12 hours.

Maximum & Minimum Temperature

Maximum temperatures are markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at
isolated places over East Rajasthan & West Madhya Pradesh; Minimum temperatures are appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over West Rajasthan; at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan.
