This week, India is set to experience a variety of weather conditions, including heavy rain along the coasts and snowfall in the Himalayan regions. A combination of low-pressure systems and western disturbances is anticipated to bring thunderstorms, cold waves, dense fog, and frost to various parts of the country. Here are the details:

Low Pressure Area over Southwest Bay of Bengal

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a well-marked low-pressure area over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal, which moved towards the Southwest Bay off the coasts of South Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu as of December 23, 2024. This system is expected to shift further west-southwestward and impact the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts by December 24.

Western Disturbance Activity

A cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan, coupled with an induced low-pressure area over northwest Rajasthan, is influencing northern India.

  • Light to moderate rainfall/snowfall is expected over the Western Himalayan Region on December 24.

  • Another active western disturbance from December 26 will interact with easterly winds, enhancing rainfall and snowfall across the Western Himalayan Region and adjoining plains. Peak activity is predicted for December 27-28.

The IMD observed a rise in minimum temperatures across northwest and central India over the past 24 hours, while parts of the south and east experienced slight dips.
