Cold Wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely in some pockets over Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan during next 2 days and decrease thereafter.
Weather Forecast: Icy Winds & Severe Cold Wave Conditions will continue in North India. IMD report says that Heavy Icy winds and cold wave conditions has been hovering over north India since Wednesday while Amritsar in Punjab reported the lowest minimum temperature.
Cold Wave Conditions Likely over These Places
Cold Day to Severe Cold Day conditions very likely in some pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, north Rajasthan and northwest Uttar Pradesh during next 24 hours. Cold Day conditions in isolated pockets over these areas during subsequent 24 hours and decrease thereafter.
Dense Fog very Likely over Assam & Meghalaya and Tripura
Dense Fog in isolated pockets very likely over Assam & Meghalaya and Tripura & Mizoram during next 2 days.
These States to Get Widespread Rainfall
Under the influence of the easterly wave, scattered to fairly widespread rain/thundershowers very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep area during next 3 days. Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on 18th & 19th December; over Kerala & Mahe on 18th December and over Lakshadweep on 19th & 20th December, 2020.
Moreover, the mercury dropped below the freezing point in several hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
"The lowest minimum temperature of 2.0°C reported at Amritsar (Punjab) over the plains of the country," the India Meteorological Department's bulletin said.
Delhi registered a minimum temperature of 5.8 degrees Celsius, while the visibility dropped to 100 metres in the Palam area in the morning due to "dense fog".
Maximum & Minimum Temperature
Maximum temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at a few places over Konkan &
Goa, Marathwada and Coastal Karnataka while Minimum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.0°C or more) at many places over Chhattisgarh; at a few places over Marathwada, East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha.
