Weather Forecast: IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall in Mumbai, Chennai, Dehradun, and Other Cities Across Several Indian States

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather warnings for heavy rainfall across several regions in the country. Konkan & Goa, along with Uttarakhand, are expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the coming days. The IMD has highlighted that areas such as Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Madhya Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal will also see significant rainfall.

The weather system causing this widespread precipitation includes a cyclonic circulation currently located over northern Madhya Maharashtra. Additionally, a trough extends from this circulation to northern Bangladesh, further enhancing the conditions for rainfall. The impact of these systems will be felt primarily over western, eastern, and northeastern parts of the country.

In West India, heavy rains are forecasted, particularly over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Gujarat, from September 26-28. Saurashtra & Kutch will also experience heavy rainfall, and Marathwada will face isolated showers. Rainfall in these regions is expected to taper off in the subsequent days, though light to moderate showers will continue.

East and Northeast India will see fairly widespread rainfall, with the heaviest downpours occurring over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on September 26 and 27. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Jharkhand, and Bihar are also set for heavy rains during this period. Rain will continue across these regions for the next seven days, though its intensity will gradually reduce after the initial days of the forecast.

Central India, including Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh, will witness scattered light to moderate rainfall over the next three days, followed by isolated showers later in the week. East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha are expected to experience isolated heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, the northwest region, particularly Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, is predicted to face heavy rainfall, especially between September 26-28. Scattered light showers will persist in other northern areas, including Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

South India is also expected to witness isolated heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Karnataka, mainly between September 26 and October 2.
