Weather India: Lightning Claims 107 Lives in UP & Bihar; Red Alert in These States for Next 72 Hours

At least 107 people have lost their lives on Friday due to furious lightning strikes which spread across 31 districts of UP and Bihar. Moreover, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert across these two states and asked the people to stay indoors as there’s a probability of another thunderstorm during the next 72 hours.

At least 107 people have lost their lives on Friday due to furious lightning strikes which spread across 31 districts of UP and Bihar. Moreover, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert across these two states and asked the people to stay indoors as there’s a probability of another thunderstorm during the next 72 hours. As per the report of the weather department, the confluence of winds and position of monsoon through-line is to be blamed for the tragedy. Moreover, Red alert has announced for the next 72 hours in Bihar and the government has launched an app for an early lightning alert.

Most of them are reported to be farmers who were working in their fields for Kharif sowing.

Ex-gratia of 4 Lakh announced to bereaved families 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for the demised and announced an Ex-gratia of 4 Lakh each to bereaved families.

Heavy Rainfall & Thunderstorm Predicted over These States in Next 24 hours

Due to shift of trough northwards and convergence of strong southerly/south-westerly winds from the Bay of Bengal over northeast & adjoining east India, widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to continue over northeast & adjoining east India during next 3 days. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also likely over Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Assam & Meghalaya during 26th-27th June, say reports.

On the other hand, Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over parts of south peninsular India during next 4-5 days. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall also likely over Kerala & Mahe during 26th-27th June.

Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy falls also very likely over East Uttar Pradesh during next 3-4 days. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall also likely over West Uttar Pradesh during 28-29th June. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning very likely at a few places over East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand during next 4-5 days.
