Weather Report: Heavy Snowfall, Rainfall to Continue in Northern and Central India While South to Expect a Reduction

After a good start in the beginning of the year, North India is still on the radar of heavy snowfall and rainfall, thanks to the prevailing western disturbance. There has been instances of traffic jams and road blockages due to the accumulation of fresh snow in many parts of the hilly areas, which had been bothering the local residents. However, the situation seems to be a little improving from the last 24 hours as the weather system is now moving away eastwards.

Despite the movement, there will be a few scattered showers and snow in the parts of Uttarakhand until today in the afternoon as the remainder of the system. A dryness in the weather is expected thereafter but only for a few days. The weather patterns are hinting towards the approach of another fresh Western Disturbance.

It is anticipated that the period between January 12 and 14 is going to witness intense weather activities in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The intensity of the weather activities are likely to impact the northern plains as well. It will also impact areas of Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, Delhi and NCR, Northwest Uttar Pradesh. Thundershowers are likely to be coupled with hailstorm in the northwestern plains on January 13 or 14.

An unseasonal rainfall of light to moderate intensity has also been recorded in various parts of Central India including Vidharbha and Marathwada (Maharashtra) and East Madhya Pradesh in particular.

While Northern and Central India expects a heavy rainfall and snowfall, South India to anticipate a reduction in rainfall. As the weather system is weakening, light to moderate rainfall that had been observed in the region until 6 January has gone down significantly in the last 48 hours.
