Weather Today: Widespread Rainfall & Thunderstorms Likely in These States; Delhi Air Quality to Remain Very Poor

Flight operations started at the Kolkata Airport on Sunday (10 November 2019) after Cyclone Bulbul made a landfall between West Bengal's Sagar Islands & Khepupara in Bangladesh on Saturday midnight. Flight operations started at the Kolkata Airport on Sunday (10 November 2019) after Cyclone Bulbul made a landfall between West Bengal's Sagar Islands & Khepupara in Bangladesh on Saturday midnight. The cyclone Bulbul has claimed at least 12 lives in Bengal as well as Odisha, leaving thousands of people homeless.

As per reports, 10 people were killed in West Bengal while 2 others died in Odisha. Also, 8 people were killed and many were injured in neighboring Bangladesh. Hundreds of trees got uprooted by the winds gushing at a speed of over 100 kilometers per hour in the last 24 hours.

On the other hand, a cyclonic circulation is laying over Kerala. This system is likely to bring widespread rainfall & thunderstorms in Kerala and adjacent areas today (11 November 2019). Fairly widespread rainfall and thunderstorms are also possible over Tamil Nadu, while scattered showers have been predicted over Karnataka and few north-east states including Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya & Tripura.

As per the weather department, there could be isolated rainfall over Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Assam, West Bengal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Talking about North India, here scattered snowfall is expected over Jammu and Kashmir, while isolated snow is likely over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Heavy snowfall lashed Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and few parts of Uttarakhand on 8 November 2019. Due to this, flight operations were badly affected at Srinagar airport. An official of the Met department said road traffic between the valley & Jammu region is likely to be affected due to snowfall.

State like Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Konkan, Goa & Telangana will remain dry.

Weather in Delhi at present will also remain dry. Meanwhile, Delhi Pollution levels were in the 'very poor' category after a relaxation in odd-even scheme yesterday. The air quality index in the National capital was recorded at 324 while the AQI in neighboring areas - Noida, Greater Noida, Faridabad & Gurugram was registered at 302, 297, 251 & 253 respectively.
