The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a mix of weather conditions across the country over the coming days, ranging from heavy rainfall in parts of the southern peninsula to dense fog in northern and eastern states. Below is a comprehensive overview of the expected weather developments.

Cyclonic Circulation and Western Disturbance in Action

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported active weather systems influencing the country's conditions. A cyclonic circulation persists over the Gulf of Mannar and the adjoining Sri Lanka coast at lower tropospheric levels. Simultaneously, a Western Disturbance as a trough is affecting regions around longitude 65°E north of latitude 30°N in the middle troposphere.

Rainfall and Thunderstorm Forecast

The southern peninsular region is set to experience light to moderate rainfall and isolated thunderstorms with lightning through November 15-17, 2024.

  • Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, along with Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, may witness isolated heavy rainfall on November 15.

  • Kerala and Mahe are likely to face similar conditions on November 15-16.

  • Light rainfall is anticipated in Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad today, with isolated showers over north Punjab.

Foggy mornings are expected to continue in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, and East Uttar Pradesh until November 17.

  • Dense to very dense fog will prevail in some pockets of West Rajasthan and Bihar till November 18, with similar conditions over Himachal Pradesh during November 17-19.

Temperature Trends

Over the past 24 hours, no significant changes were observed in minimum temperatures across most regions. However:

  • Minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (by 3-5°C) in parts of Northwest Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, South Telangana, Madhya Maharashtra, and West Uttar Pradesh.

  • The lowest recorded minimum temperature was 10.4°C in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh.

Upcoming Temperature Forecast:

  • Northwest and Central India: Gradual fall by 2-3°C over the next five days.

  • East India: Slight decrease by 2-3°C in the coming days.

Delhi/NCR Weather Overview (November 16-18, 2024)

Delhi will experience mostly clear skies with varying levels of smog and fog.

Observed Weather:

  • Minimum temperatures ranged between 11-17°C, slightly above normal.

  • Predominantly smoggy conditions were observed, with Palam and Safdarjung airports reporting low visibility in the morning.

Forecast:

  • 15th Nov: Clear skies, light winds (4-8 kmph), and smog or shallow fog in the evening.

  • 16th-18th Nov: Clear skies with moderate fog in the mornings and smog during the evenings. Wind speeds will vary between 6-12 kmph during the day.
