The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a mix of snow, rain, dense fog, and rising temperatures across India in the coming days. Northern states are likely to experience chilly mornings with dense fog, while heavy snowfall is expected to cover parts of the Western Himalayas. Meanwhile, southern regions are gearing up for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. Here's everything you need to know to stay updated on the changing weather conditions.

Weather Systems Affecting India:

  • Western Himalayan Region: A Western Disturbance is bringing snowfall to the region, with isolated heavy snowfall expected in Uttarakhand on January 23rd. Light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue until January 21st, with an increase in intensity from January 21st to 23rd, affecting Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh.

  • South Tamil Nadu and Kerala: A trough in easterlies is affecting Tamil Nadu and Kerala, bringing scattered light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places, on January 18th and 19th.

  • Northwest India: A gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 3-5°C is likely over the plains of Northwest India for the next 5 days.

  • Central India: No significant change in minimum temperatures for the next 3 days, followed by a gradual rise of 2-3°C.

  • Western Himalayan Region and East/West India: No significant change in minimum temperatures expected for the next 5 days.

Cold Wave and Dense Fog Alerts:

  • Cold Wave Conditions: Himachal Pradesh is expected to experience cold wave conditions on January 18th.

  • Dense Fog: Dense fog is predicted in several parts of India, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, particularly on the mornings of January 18th and 19th. It will persist in isolated pockets until January 21st.
