Weather Update: Heavy Monsoon Rains Likely in These States; Schools, Colleges Closed; IMD Asks People to Stay Indoors

Beginning with North India, here a weak Western Disturbance is lying over Northeast parts of Jammu & Kashmir due to which Uttarakhand will experience moderate rainfall and thundershowers. However, heavy rainfall is likely over Rudraprayag, Dehradun, Nainital and Chamoli. Himachal Pradesh & foothills over Punjab will also witness light spells of showers at scattered places. West Rajasthan, remaining parts of Punjab & Jammu and Kashmir will remain dry.

Beginning with North India, here a weak Western Disturbance is lying over Northeast parts of Jammu & Kashmir due to which Uttarakhand will experience moderate rainfall and thundershowers. However, heavy rainfall is likely over Rudraprayag, Dehradun, Nainital and Chamoli. Himachal Pradesh & foothills over Punjab will also witness light spells of showers at scattered places. West Rajasthan, remaining parts of Punjab & Jammu and Kashmir will remain dry.

In addition, a Cyclonic Circulation can be seen over Southwest areas of Uttar Pradesh and neighboring region. With this, rainfall activity will intensify over Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and eastern parts of Rajasthan. Lucknow, Shajahanpur, Bareilly, Bahraich etc could experience heavy rainfall at some places.

Weather Delhi

As the western end of Monsoon Trough is moving northwards, places like Delhi, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Rohtak, Karnal, Ambala and Panipat will get to see some good rainfall. Weather in Delhi is quite pleasant as rainfall throughout the weekend has dropped the temperature here.

In Central India, an off-shore Trough is moving from Gujarat coast to Kerala. Because of this system, heavy rainfall will continue in Konkan and Goa coast.

Mumbai Rains

Mumbai on the other hand will witness moderate rainfall. The remaining parts of Maharashtra may receive light to moderate showers. According to IMD, the city will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds up to 45 to 60 km per hour at isolated places. A warning was also issued yesterday for heavy showers in Mumbai, Thane & Palghar in the next 48 hours.

Besides this, an upper air Trough is extending from Gujarat to Northwest Bay of Bengal. And, the axis of Monsoon Trough is extending across North Madhya Pradesh. Due to this, Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh will get light to moderate rainfall at some places. Morena, Gwalior, Datia and Shivpuri could experience heavy rainfall at scattered places.

The eastern parts of Gujarat that includes Vadodara will get moderate rains along with thundershowers while Kutch and Saurashtra will witness light rains at scattered places.

Talking about Northeast part of the country, a Cyclonic Circulation is lying over Northern parts of Bay of Bengal which may further intensify. Because of this system, Jharkhand, Odisha and parts of Gangetic West Bengal will receive light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers at several places. The intensity of rain will increase in Bihar also. The Northeastern states are expected to remain hot and humid. Kolkata could get spells of light to moderate showers along with a fall in day temperatures.

Finally in South India, an off-shore Trough will lead to increase in rain activities in coastal Karnataka as well as Kerala. Northern areas of Kerala & Coastal Karnataka will experience heavy rainfall at several places. South Kerala will get moderate showers. Interior parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will also see light to moderate rainfall & thundershowers. But, southern parts of Telangana & Rayalaseema will witness only light rains. Chennai, on the other hand will remain dry & humid.
