Weather Update: Heavy Rainfall Predicted in Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and West Bengal
Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Northeast and South Peninsular India, while the southwest monsoon is set to withdraw from Northwest regions. Dry weather will prevail over Central, West, and Northwest India in the coming days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in certain regions, particularly isolated areas of Assam and Meghalaya. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in isolated locations across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Weather conditions indicate the gradual retreat of the southwest monsoon from parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh over the next 2-3 days. A cyclonic circulation is present over the Comorin area and the adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean, extending towards North Interior Karnataka at lower atmospheric levels. Similarly, a cyclonic circulation is also affecting northeast Assam at mid-levels of the troposphere.
In East and Northeast India, widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected throughout the week, particularly over the northeast region and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. West Bengal and Sikkim will experience scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted for the northeast region on the 2nd and 3rd of October, while Arunachal Pradesh may see heavy rainfall from October 1st to 5th. The states of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also likely to experience heavy rains through October 6th.
In South Peninsular India, widespread light to moderate rains are anticipated over Kerala, Mahe, South Interior Karnataka, and Lakshadweep. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Coastal Karnataka will see scattered rainfall. Heavy rains are expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from October 1st to 5th, and Kerala and Mahe from October 1st to 3rd. South Interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep may experience heavy rainfall on October 1st.
On the other hand, Northwest, West, and Central India are expected to remain dry, with no significant rainfall projected for the coming week. The monsoon is gradually retreating, signaling the onset of drier weather in these regions.
