Weather Update: IMD Predicts Very Heavy Rainfall Over Eastern India; Check Complete Forecast here
"Widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls & thunderstorm/lightning very likely over southwest Madhya Pradesh & south Gujarat on August 23rd; southwest Rajasthan on August 23rd & 24th; and Chhattisgarh on August 26th & 27th, 2022," the MeT Department predicted.
Several Indian states will experience heavy rain in the coming days. Heavy rain is expected over the eastern part of India over the next two days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Meanwhile, rain is expected to be light over northwest and central India over the next five days. East Rajasthan and adjoining Northwest Madhya Pradesh are affected by a well-defined Low Pressure Area.
At mean sea level, the western end of the monsoon trough is south of its normal position, while the eastern end is near its normal position. Rainfall is expected in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.

Over the next few days, heavy rain is also expected in the eastern part of the country. "Fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls & thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Bihar on the 23rd; East Uttar Pradesh on the 24th; SubHimalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on the 23rd, 26th, & 27th; Odisha, Jharkhand, & Gangetic West Bengal on the 23rd & 24th August, 2022," the weather service said. On Wednesday, heavy to very heavy rain is also expected over Odisha.
Heavy rain is expected in the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland over the next few days. According to the IMD's weather bulletin, "fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Arunachal Pradesh on the 23rd, 26th, and 27th; Assam and Meghalaya on the 23rd, 26th, and 27th; and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during the next 5 days."
Rainfall is also expected in the Western Himalayas. "Fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Uttarakhand on August 23rd & 24th; Jammu & Kashmir on August 24th; and Himachal Pradesh on August 24th & 25th, 2022," the MeT Department said.
Meanwhile, coastal and south-central Karnataka are expected to receive heavy rain and thunderstorms on August 24. Heavy rains are also expected in Tamil Nadu until August 26 and in Kerala and Mahe until August 27.
On Wednesday, strong surface winds of 20-30 kmph with gusts up to 40 kmph are expected over southeast Rajasthan and adjoining West Madhya Pradesh. During the same time period, strong surface winds of 15-25 kmph with gusts up to 35 kmph are expected over the remaining parts of Rajasthan, as well as the adjoining north Gujarat Region, south Haryana, and Delhi.
