Weather Update: Western Disturbance Manifests As Cyclonic Circulation, Advisory To Harvest Mature Crops Early
The western disturbance, spanning from the lower to upper tropospheric levels, is likely to have an impact from February 29 to March 3, 2024.
The weather forecast for Delhi hints at a mixture of clouds dominating the sky. With temperatures ranging from a maximum of 28°C to a minimum of 15°C, residents can anticipate a mild day ahead. However, the weather may not be entirely clear-cut as there's a chance of mist descending and reducing visibility at intervals. Winds are expected to be gentle, blowing at a speed of around 6 km/h, offering a subtle breeze to accompany the day.
IMD Predicts Weather For Five Days
Looking beyond the immediate forecast, the broader weather systems and forecasts for the next five days paint a more intricate picture. A Western Disturbance currently manifests as a cyclonic circulation over northeast Iran and its adjacent regions. This disturbance, spanning from the lower to upper tropospheric levels, is likely to have a far-reaching impact. From February 29 to March 3, 2024, it is expected to affect not only the Western Himalayan Region but also the plains of northwest India. During its peak intensity on March 1 and 2, widespread light to moderate rainfall is predicted, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
This weather pattern extends to various regions, including Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh. Moreover, isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall is anticipated over certain areas, including Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, potentially leading to hailstorm activity.
Simultaneously, another cyclonic circulation, positioned over northeast Bangladesh and neighboring areas in the lower tropospheric levels, is poised to bring isolated to scattered rainfall or snowfall over Arunachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, regions like Kerala and Rayalaseema are expected to experience hot and humid weather conditions in the coming days.
Agromet Issues Advisory
In light of these weather predictions, agromet advisories have been issued to guide residents in precautionary measures. Farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Marathwada, and North Rajasthan are advised to harvest mature crops early and secure them safely. Protective measures, such as installing hail nets or caps, are recommended for fruit orchards in areas prone to hailstorms. Furthermore, arrangements for efficient drainage of excess water from fields are encouraged to prevent water stagnation and potential crop damage. Additionally, mechanical support for crops and vegetables is advised across various states to mitigate potential losses.
Understanding the potential impacts of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall, individuals must take appropriate precautions. Strong winds and hail may pose risks to crops, plantations, and vulnerable structures, while minor damage to infrastructure cannot be ruled out. Therefore, residents are urged to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and seek safe shelters during adverse weather conditions. Unplugging electrical appliances and staying away from water bodies are also recommended safety measures.
