After 2-3 days break, pre-Monsoon weather activities will once again start over many parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. These weather activities will take place together with the formation of a cyclonic circulation over inner parts of Kerala and a depression extending up to Comorin area.
As a result there will be on and off rainfall & thundershower activities in many parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the next three to four days. Although the intensity of these weather activities will not be very high but few moderate spell are likely over several places of both these Southern Indian states.
On the other hand, Coastal Tamil Nadu & Puducherry that includes Chennai, Thanjavur, Karaikal, Cuddalore & Nagapattinam will stay almost dry with high day temperatures. But light thunderstorm action may have an effect on few of these places.
This means, pre-Monsoon activities are going to pick up speed in southern parts of India once again. The most affected regions will be interior parts of both Tamil Nadu as well as Kerala. As the rains will not be heavy, flood like situations will be avoided and these rains will be helpful for the crops in the states.
The majority of water reservoirs in Tamil Nadu are in bad state with less than 20 percent of water availability. Thus, it is clear that the state is waiting for the start of Monsoon keenly that usually takes places in the first week of June.
Meanwhile a western disturbance or WD northwest of Rajasthan is moving ahead eastward in the country. The western disturbance’s provoked cyclonic circulation is expected to cause scattered snow or rainfall with thunderstorms in the upper reaches of northern & central India today (13 May 2019).
Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir may also experience scattered rainfall or snowfall, thunderstorms & hailstorms. The northern plains can witness isolated rain with thunderstorms as well as dust storms, specifically in states like Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
Also a cyclonic circulation is positioned over Arunachal Pradesh & Assam. This may bring heavy rainfall or snowfall & thunderstorms over Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. In addition, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura and Mizoram may also experience scattered rain & thunderstorms.
