Weather Warning! Intense Rainfall Likely over These States Today; 2 Dead, 1750 Evacuated after Heavy Downpour in Gujarat
A Well Marked Low pressure area over north coastal Odisha and adjoining areas of northwest Bay of Bengal and Gangetic WestBengal now lies over Gangetic West Bengal & adjoining Jharkhand and north Odisha. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and weaken gradually during next 48 hours, says the weather department reports in its morning bulletin.
As a result of heavy rainfall, flood has created havoc situations in Gujarat while four cities including Surat reached above danger mark. 2 people were killed while more than 1,750 people were evacuated to safer places in Surat city and district following incessant rain which caused the water level in rivers to rise.
Moreover, the Well-marked Low pressure area over north coastal Odisha and adjoining areas of northwest Bay of Bengal and Gangetic West Bengal now lies over Gangetic West Bengal & adjoining Jharkhand and north Odisha. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and weaken gradually during next 48 hours, says the weather department reports in its morning bulletin.
The monsoon trough is active and lies south of its normal position. It is likely to remain active during next 3-4 days.
The cyclonic circulation over south Haryana & neighbourhood persists and extends upto 3.1 km above mean sea level.
Convergence of strong moist southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea likely to continue over central India during next 2-3 days.
These States are Likely to Get Heavy Rain Today
Under the above scenario:
(i) Scattered to Fairly widespread rainfall very likely over northwest India during next 5 days. Isolated heavy falls are likely over Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh during next 4-5 days.
(ii) Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with Isolated extremely heavy falls likely over Gujarat region on 15th, 17th & 18th August; over south Rajasthan, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa on 15th August; over Chhattisgarh on 15th & 16th; over Odisha & Telangana on 15th August and over Saurashtra & Kutch on 18th & 19th August.
(iii) Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during next 2 days, and at isolated places over Gujarat state, Konkan & Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, East Rajasthan and parts of central India during next 4-5 days. Due to the likely formation of a Low Pressure Area, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is likely over Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during 18th & 19th August. Moderate to Severe thunderstorm accompanied with lightning very likely at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Telengana, Rayalseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 24 hours.

Maximum temperatures are appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad while Minimum temperatures are appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over
Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
