One day Workshop on “Responsible fishing” was organized at ICAR-CIFT. The programme was attended by 44 graduate and post graduate students of fisheries from local colleges in and around Cochin along with scientists and staff of the Institute.
One day Workshop on “Responsible fishing” was organized at ICAR-CIFT. The programme was attended by 44 graduate and post graduate students of fisheries from local colleges in and around Cochin along with scientists and staff of the Institute.
ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin celebrated ‘World Fisheries Day’ on 21 November, 2018 to create awareness on conservation of fisheries resources and protection of environment among students of fisheries.
Dr. Leela Edwin, Head, Fishing Technology Division welcomed the gathering and gave an insight on the theme. Dr. C.N. Ravishankar, Director in his address elaborated about the importance of World Fisheries Day and also about the various activities of ICAR-CIFT and its efforts towards promoting responsible fishing.
Three lectures were delivered on the occasion:

Responsible use of energy in fishing by Dr. Leela Edwin, HOD, FT and Principal Scientist

Juvenile fish catches - Implications and mitigation measures by Dr. V.R. Madhu, Principal Scientist.

Ghost fishing and plastic pollution in our seas by Dr. Saly N. Thomas, Principal Scientist.
A quiz competition on ‘Fish and Fisheries’ was also conducted for the graduate and post graduate students of fisheries. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. K.M. Sandhya, Scientist.
