For the well-being of the present as well as future generations, we all must act as a responsible & accountable human beings by protecting and conserving our nature as there's no 'Planet B'.

Conservation is a state of harmony between men and land and it simply means the wise use of the earth and its resources for future. To attain this, World Nature Conservation Day is observed every year on July 28 with the only purpose to conserve the Nature & its Wildlife.

Significance of World Nature Conservation Day:

  • Nature consistently gives us all that we need on daily basis. But due to over-population and human ignorance we started exploitation of natural resources. If this continues for long, there will be no resources left for our future generations.

  • We stay in touch with nature right from birth and with the passage of time develop a relationship with it. Conservation of resources has crucial role in preserving the nature of the Earth. For protecting the beauty of Earth there should be a balance in various components of nature such as water, air, soil, energy, vegetation, minerals, flora-fauna etc.

  • Natural resources of Earth include air, minerals, plants, soil, water, and wildlife. Conservation day encourages us to care and protect these resources so that they can stay with the future generations too. To a wider extent, it includes maintaining diversity of species, genes, and ecosystems, as well as functions of the environment, such as nutrient cycling.

  • Conservation & Preservation often looks similar but there's a difference between them. However, both relate to the protection of nature, they attempt to achieve this task in different ways.

Why it is Important to Conserve the Resources?

Increased urbanization across the globe has led to serious issues like lack of wildlife habitat, loss of forest cover & pollution. Now, various governments have acknowledged this problem and taken steps to reverse it. Let me tell you about the need to conserve the resources in below points:

  • To make sure that the future generations will be able to access the natural resources.

  • To support all life by supporting ecological balance of nature.

  • To preserve & maintain the biodiversity.

  • To ensure human race survives.

Here's How You can Make a Difference:

We would like to talk about some habits that you must follow in your daily life to make a huge difference in conserving the environment. Let's discuss about it in detail;

1. Choose to Reuse:

Instead of throwing empty food containers and peanut butter jars into the dustbin, you should reuse them for many other purpose like storing other food items or other things in them or get creative and make showpieces out of them.

2. Make your own cloth bags:

Instead of using plastic or paper bags for your daily grocery shopping, adopt an eco-friendly way such as using cloth bags as they are re-usable and help a great deal in saving the planet.

3. Have a No-Car Day:

Vehicular pollution is the leading cause of air pollution across the world and yet there seems to be no control over it. If you would like to use your car, first consider walking or using your bike if the journey is a short one. This only could make a great change in the level of air pollution.

4. Planting more Trees:

This is crucial for Ecosystem-Restoration. Planting trees also includes taking care of it. Let's develop a habit of planting one tree every month, encourage your friends and colleagues to join you as well.

Some other simple things that you can do. Practice these small steps for a sustainable lifestyle to protect and conserve nature:

  • Save energy by switching off lights, fans and air conditioners when not in use.

  • Try to avoid wasting food, water and other items of regular use.

  • Don't waste water and always remember to close the tap properly after brushing or washing hands.

  • Rainwater harvesting during the monsoon season is crucial.
