Since Independence, women personnel had to compromise with bulky and oversized body protectors that were designed for men. Now around 300 women CRPF personnel posted in Srinagar to control the stone-pelting incidents will get benefit from these gears.

It took around two years to design the gear. It is designed by a team of scientists from the DIPAS, a unit of DRDO. Dr. Bhuvnesh Kumar, Director of DIPAS said that the gear covers all soft parts of human body such as rib-cage, back of the arm, inner calf, thigh and groin area of females deployed in riot control. Scientist Dr. Shweta Rawat said that the gears will protect vital organs of women too.

Uses of this Gear

This gear is anti stab

The gear is anti-acid.

It weighs only 6 kg

It guards neck to toe with chest, hands, legs, shin and thigh

Cost

It will be available in all sizes and the material used in this gear is same as that used in male body protectors. It costs around 9000 rupees per gear and around 8000 women that are deployed in RAF will get the body protectors. The CRPF is likely to place an order of 9000 such pieces.
