Kids and young adults are naturally drawn to the mysteries of the cosmos, fueled by an unquenchable curiosity to uncover the secrets of celestial phenomena. Recognizing this desire for knowledge, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has embarked on a remarkable initiative tailored specifically for school children - the ‘Young Scientist Programme’ or ‘YUva VIgyani KAryakram’ (YUVIKA).

Objectives of YUVIKA

The primary objective of YUVIKA is to impart fundamental knowledge on Space Science, Space Technology, and Space Applications to young students, exposing them to the evolving landscape of space science and technology. By instilling this knowledge early on, ISRO aims to "Catch them young" and cultivate a generation capable of excelling in the realms of space science and technology, thereby contributing to the nation's progress.

YUVIKA also seeks to inspire students to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) through immersive learning experiences and hands-on activities.

YUVIKA 2024: Programme Structure

YUVIKA is designed to cater to students from diverse backgrounds, with a particular focus on rural areas. The two-week program includes classroom training, practical experiments, hands-on activities such as building CANSATs and robotic kits, model rocketry sessions, and interactions with ISRO scientists. Additionally, field visits provide participants with real-world insights into ISRO's cutting-edge facilities.

The success of YUVIKA is evident from its previous editions, held in 2019, 2022, and 2023. Each year witnessed a growing participation, with 111, 153, and 337 students respectively, representing every State and Union Territory of India. The program's popularity soared in 2023, with over 1.25 lakh students registering from across the country.
