Rajani Shetty

Well known as savior of stray dogs, Rajani Damodar Shetty, from Ballalbagh is still fulfilling her commitment to rescue the unfortunate animals from hunger and danger. It was while travelling in a bus, when she saw a stray dog begging for food in the street.

This was when Rajani’s journey started - a dedication to save 500 stray animals per day in Mangaluru.

She is feeding the loyal animals 200 kg of rice and chicken per day. Moreover, Rajani Shetty saved many stray dogs, which fell in well or drainage. The street dogs are being rescued by this great lady, for them she climbs down wells and even creeps through the drainage stream.

It has been 15 years and the 42 year- old- woman has rescued almost 2,000 animals. She believes that her life becomes worthier and meaningful, from the unconditional love of animals by filling their empty bellies.

She has married Damodar Shetty and has two daughters Shwetha, Rithika and a son Prathik. Her family also supports her in the venture by bringing her to the dogs in the streets of Mangaluru.

Several Samaritans and dog lovers also came forward to extend hands to Rajany in taking care of the stray animals. They offered money, food and other pet medicines.

Nothing daunts Rajani from determination

The kind-hearted woman keeps, treat and nurture many dogs, cats and some birds at her residence that she found injured or handicapped.

Neighbours frightening stray dogs had harassed and confronted her in caring for animals, but the true- animal lover never curbed her love and service.  Even the lockdown also failed to daunt her from the determination, as she could feed hundreds of odd dogs three times a day.
