98.19 lakh tonnes of Paddy bought at MSP value of Rs 18,540 crore by Government

FCI and other state owned procurement offices from New Delhi have purchased 98.19 lakh tonnes of paddy till Monday for an amount of Rs 18,540 crore. 

"Procurement of paddy for the Kharif season 2020-21 is advancing at a quick pace in the states and UTs of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, J&K and Kerala with acquisition of over 98.19 lakh tonnes of paddy up to October 19 from 8.54 lakh farmers with a estimated value of Rs 18,539.86 crore at Minimum Support Price (MSP) rate of Rs 18,880 for each ton," an official statement commented. 

For the previous kharif marketing season 2019-20, procurement for paddy was at 80.20 lakh tonnes. Whereas, for the current season, procurement for the same has exceeded 22.43 percent compared to last year, it added.  

In light of the proposition from the states, approval was concurred for the procurement of 42.46 lakh tonnes of pulses and Oilseeds of Kharif Marketing Season 2020 from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). 

In addition, the procurement sanctions for 1.23 lakh tonnes of copra from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala were likewise given. 

Till Monday, the govt. through its nodal organizations obtained 806.11 tonnes of Moong and Urad having MSP estimation of Rs 5.80 crore profiting 779 farmers from the states of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Haryana.  

Likewise, 5,089 tons of copra having MSP estimation of Rs 52.40 crore has been secured profiting 3,961 farmers from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.  

Cotton obtainment tasks under MSP are going on evenly in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan. Till Monday, an amount of 200512 cotton bunches esteeming Rs 565.90 crore has been acquired from 40,196 farmers, the announcement said.
