Amazon Retail India Opens First Collection Facility in Gujarat to Empower Farmers

Amazon Retail India has opened its first collection facility in Gujarat at Prantij, in an effort to empower Gujarati farmers and provide high-quality fruits and vegetables to its consumers. Farmers may expect quick payments, fair and open pricing, and farming advice from this collecting facility.

Customers will also have access to a variety of native and authentic fruits and vegetables, such as guava, sapota, pomegranate, cabbage, cauliflower, tomato, potatoes, and bhindi, through this facility. On the 14th of June,Dinesh Patel, Deputy Director Horticulture, Gujarat Government, and Baka Bhai Patel, Sarpanch Tajpur Village, together with 150+ farmers, opened the collection facility in Majra Chokdi.

"Our objective is to empower local farmers across the region to harness online markets and become a part of the digital economy," said Rajesh Prasad, Category Leader, Amazon Retail India. We are now in a position to buy the freshest and highest quality local produce from farmers and deliver it to our clients as a result of this launch and growth of our collection centre network. In Gujarat, we're also collaborating with FPOs, and we've already signed up over 120 farmers to sell their goods at the collecting centre. 

We're learning more about farmers and the supply chain as we grow, and we're trying to establish the infrastructure and cutting-edge technology that will help us simplify the end-to-end value chain from our farms to our customers."

The Prantij collecting centre offers a reliable, temperature-controlled supply chain infrastructure that provides high-quality, locally cultivated fruits, leafy greens, and vegetables. After procuring the product from farmers, Amazon Retail India inspects the quality of fresh fruits and vegetables at its collection centre using technology-enabled capabilities and then monitors it at numerous stages.

The fresh fruits and vegetables are then delivered to processing centres, where they are sorted, graded, geo-tagged, and packaged in various sizes in well-aerated sustainable packaging to ensure the highest quality grade product is delivered to Amazon Fresh fulfillment centres near customers.
