With just a month left for closure of current financial year, Mahabubnagar (Telangana) Collector S Venkat Rao wanted the bank managements to achieve the targets set for extension of loans to farmers.

On Friday, the Collector held a conference with bankers, MPDOs, and Tahsildars to review the loans granted to farmers during the current fiscal year.

Officials informed the meeting that the State Bank of India had extended Rs.167 crore and the Union Bank of India had extended Rs.101 crore. The Collector requested that the bank representatives to extend the balance loans in accordance with the targets set for the fiscal year 2021-22.

To this effect, he directed Agriculture Extension Officers to accompany farmers to banks and ensure that loans were sanctioned immediately.

The Collector stated that many farmers in Koilkonda, Devarkadra, and Chinna Chintakunta were cultivating mulberry and requested that lenders offer loans to such farmers in order for them to begin planting horticultural crops.

He also stated that many farmers in Hanwada, Balanagar, Rajapur, and other mandals cultivated vegetables and fruits on a large scale. "Banks should help farmers and aid in promotion of horticulture crops” said Venkat Rao.

Meanwhile, the District Collector S Venkat Rao appealed to parents to get polio drops administered for children aged below five years on Sunday.

Rallies and awareness programs will be held on Saturday to educate people on polio immunization.

According to him, 676 polio centers have been established across the district, and 68 observers have been assigned to monitor polio vaccination on the 68 routes identified in the district.
