Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Punjab Cooperation Minister has announced that in order to increase the quality of raw milk, the government will provide milk coolers in bulk to radical dairy farmers associated with Verka.

The decision was made at a meeting held at the Verka headquarters in Chandigarh on Sunday. Randhawa said at the meeting that bulk milk coolers will be given to 100 progressive dairy farmers who will supply more than 500 kg milk to Verka on a regular basis on a subsidy basis.

Over the last 20 years, about 1,200 bulk milk coolers of various capacities have been delivered to registered milk cooperative societies associated with Verka milk plants operating under Milkfed, according to the cooperation minister.

He claims that these bulk milk coolers have resulted in a significant change in milk production, which has helped boost product quality and increase sales.

Aside from milk producers' cooperative societies, Verka milk plants in Punjab receive milk directly from around 2,300 radical dairy farmers. Milkfed's managing director, Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, said that dairy farmers who are interested in receiving benefits under the programme should contact Milkfed.

Milkfed managing director Kamaldeep Singh Sangha said that progreressive dairy farmers interested in receiving benefits under the scheme should contact the Verka milk plant's general manager or manager, milk procurement.
