Dubai receives GI-Certified Jalgaon Bananas from India
A batch of fiber and mineral-rich Jalgaon bananas has been sent to Dubai, boosting exports of Geographical Indications (GI) recognized agricultural product.
A consignment of fibre and mineral rich ‘Jalgaon Banana' has been exported to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in an effort to boost to India's exports of Geographical Indications (GI) registered agricultural goods.
Tandalwadi village in Maharashtra's Jalgaon district, a cluster chosen under the new agro export strategy, provided about 22 tonne of GI certified bananas.
Nisargraja Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Jalgaon registered GI certification for the region's bananas in 2016. India's banana exports have increased dramatically as a result of the adoption of global-standard farming practices.
Exports increased in volume and value in FY20, rising to 1.95 lakh tonne (Rs660 crore) from 1.34 lakh tonne (Rs413 crore) in FY19. The country has so far exported 1.91 lakh tonne of the healthy fruit worth Rs619 crore in FY21.
India produces 25% of the world's bananas. More than 70 percent of the country's banana production comes from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh.
“APEDA supports agricultural and processed food exports by assisting exporters through different components of its program, including infrastructure development, quality development, and market development. APEDA also organizes worldwide buyer-seller meetings and virtual trade fairs with importing nations to promote agricultural and processed food products, according to a statement from the commerce ministry.
46 distinct product clusters have been selected for export promotion as part of the agriculture export program. For the first time, shipments have been made from some of these clusters, including fresh vegetables and mangoes from Varanasi and black rice from Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh, according to the statement.
India's top agricultural export markets are the United States, China, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Nepal, Iran, and Malaysia. Most of these destinations have seen an increase in exports, with Indonesia leading the way with a 102.42 percent increase, followed by Bangladesh with a 95.93 percent increase.
